At the moment of writing this post, I am almost 5 months into travelling. At the start of the trip while I was in Europe I was eating whatever I wanted, huge portions sizes, dessert every night, unlimited snacks and never doing any exercise. So, of course, this resulted in a little weight gain but also at the time I couldn’t work out why I felt to tired and sick all the time… Yes I was that oblivious!
Since being in Southeast Asia I have made a more conscious effort to eat more healthy, well as much as possible while still enjoying the food. I have started running daily to get exercise in and really increase my water intake. I have also stopped eating dairy and I thought this would be the perfect time to start seeing as my tummy was in all sorts of pains.
My Healthy Travel Morning Routine
In my conscious effort to stay more healthy, I have created this little morning routine that helps get me into the right mindset every morning and kick-start the day with some healthy habits.
These are the habits I am currently trying to work on and stick with to keep me a little bit more healthy while travelling:
- Drink more water – especially when I first wake up to just get that extra intake
This helps bring back my mind to the present moment and from there I can really appreciate where I am instead of just letting it all fly past. I use the Headspace program
In the video I mention the 5K Runner App, I have been doing this app for the past month and I can already run so much further than I could before.
Most mornings I will make my own breakfast of overnight oats and this is a more healthy option than what they serve here. Plus I also have very limited options for breakfast in Asia as I do not eat eggs or dairy.

A few other ways I stay more on the healthy side when travelling:
- Walk everywhere I can – just went for a 5k walk to see something just before writing this post!
- Supermarket dinners -not only healthy because I know exactly what I’m eating but saves money too!
- Ask for salad instead of fries for a side
- Make sure I am getting a full 8 hours sleep
- Snacks – always be prepared with healthy snacks because you never know when you might be stuck for options
